Esther’s She Shed: Fund For Good Recipient

In 2023, Esther Bramwell applied to Fund for Good with a big idea - to build her very own sensory-friendly “She Shed”. Living in a small home with her parents and younger sisters, Esther was craving a space of her own. Somewhere quiet and creative, where she could sing, dance, and just be herself.

With support from Fund for Good, and her qualified builder dad, Esther got to work. Her plan? A non-toxic, recycled-material space built just for her needs. She sourced timber reclaimed from Lyttelton Harbour, pallet wood from Germany, and second-hand doors from local crash yards. The whole project was designed with care, sustainability, and purpose in mind.

Now, in 2025, the She Shed is nearly complete. It includes a sleeping loft, a fold-down table, and even a bathroom. Esther’s been hands-on every step of the way, learning how to design, build, and piece it all together.

“My favourite thing to do is connecting it all up and learning how to design it.” – Esther

The shed has given Esther something of her own – a space where she feels comfortable and in control. Being part of the build has boosted her confidence, and now she’s thinking about how she could build sheds for others who might need their own space too.

Her mum shared: “It’s been incredible – from conception through to nearly complete. Esther has learned so much… and it’s been really precious time with her dad.”

This is exactly what Fund for Good is all about: enabling bold ideas that build confidence, connection, and a real sense of purpose.

Ka pai, Esther - we’re proud to be part of your journey.
