Self-Direction is about having control over how your funding is used, including being able to choose and
employ your own support workers.
There are different names for this type of funding, and it can vary by region. It may be Individualised
Funding (IF), Enabling Good Lives (EGL) or Mana Whaikaha.
Start your journey by following these 3 simple steps.
Do you want to have choice, control and flexibility over how you use your funding? An example is
choosing who provides your support and when.
In being the “boss of your own life”, would you be willing to become an employer of your own
worker(s) and take on the responsibilities for managing your budget?
Do you already have support funding approved by your Needs Assessment Co-ordinator, DHB or ACC?
If you think that Self-Direction is right for you, you will need to choose a Provider who has the
systems, tools and values that fit with what you and your whanau want and need to enable you to manage
Manawanui believes self-direction is a fundamental human right and is committed to supporting our
customers across Aotearoa to help make managing funding easy.
