Resilient, Determined, Compassionate.
These three words perfectly capture John’s spirit.
John loves spending time with his loyal pet, Rambo, and enjoys gardening, swimming, and watching documentaries. But beyond his hobbies, he’s driven by a desire to lead a more fulfilling life and create something meaningful for his community.
After successfully running a Japanese restaurant in the CBD for over a decade, John faced a life-altering diagnosis of Moya-Moya disease. This led to a stroke, resulting in a cognitive disability. However, through extensive rehabilitation and sheer willpower, John has regained the ability to enjoy many of his favourite activities. Now he is ready to channel his experience and resilience into a new venture that not only supports his well-being but also contributes positively to his community.
A new venture: mini hydroponic farm
With the help of Fund for Good, John is setting up a mini hydroponic farm in his garage to grow and sell fresh produce. The program has funded the essential equipment needed to bring his vision to life.
And here’s the latest update: the hydroponic system has been assembled, and the lettuce seedlings have germinated! They’re now ready to be planted into the system, a huge milestone for John’s journey.
“Planting in water makes it so much easier for me to grow crops. I want to grow lots and lots of lettuce,” John says enthusiastically.
For John, gardening is more than a hobby, it’s a source of joy, purpose, and connection to nature. With the hydroponic farm, John can:
Reduce physical strain: With hydroponic systems set at a comfortable working height, John can avoid the strenuous activities of traditional gardening.
Use Resources Efficiently: Hydroponic farming uses less water and nutrients, making it more sustainable and easier to manage.
Adapt to changing conditions: A controlled environment allows for year-round gardening, which helps John maintain a consistent routine that’s crucial for his cognitive well-being.
Empower self-sufficiency: By growing his own crops, John enhances his independence and finds a renewed sense of accomplishment.
Giving back to the community
John’s commitment to community goes beyond just growing greens. From the profit he makes, he plans to donate 5% back to Fund for Good, ensuring that this chain of blessings continues.
We’re proud to support John in his inspiring journey and can’t wait to see his hydroponic farm flourish!
