Matteo’s Intensive Therapy Experience

Matteo Gray is a bright, determined, and fun-loving 13-year-old who enjoys music, food, and a good laugh. Born with Cerebral Palsy and complex medical needs, Matteo has worked incredibly hard to gain mobility and independence. Against the odds, he started walking at age six, progressed from using a walker to walking independently at home, and now communicates using an eyegaze device.

To continue building on his progress, Matteo’s family applied to Fund for Good for support to attend a three-week intensive therapy programme with the Centre of Movement in Rotorua. This specialised programme is designed to strengthen his mobility, coordination, and independence, ensuring he has the best opportunity to keep moving forward.

Matteo completed the programme in December, where therapists focused on improving his posture, mobility, and balance. The first week involved hands-on physiotherapy to help prepare his muscles for movement, and by the end of the programme, he had a tailored home plan to continue his progress.

Since returning home, his family has committed to daily stretching, massage, and strength exercises, helping him feel more comfortable and confident in his movements. They’ve also invested in new equipment to support his ongoing development.

With renewed motivation and a clear plan in place, Matteo and his family are excited for what’s next!
